Marie Frederick

I am a fabric/fiber artist creating mixed media collages. I use time-tested and traditional methods of sewing, weaving, quilting, appliqué, patchwork, knitting, beading and embroidery, (usually labeled as ‘craft’) in contemporary and unexpected ways to create my art. I may often incorporate paper and found objects. My creations come from my insight and imagination, from nature and from looking at the work of other fabric artists. I have produced 3 solo exhibitions.

Pins and Needles

These pins and needles and threads can tell stories of the creativity of the artist - what kinds of fabric the
pins held together before stitching with the needles leading to the outcome of a finished piece that was
the vision of the artist. They tell the stories of stitching ripped out and done over, of working with difficult
fabrics, of tears and despair, pricked fingers and then ...... success!
