This iconic couple was created by Masman Peter Minshall and his Minshall Callaloo Company for the 1990 Carnival Competition of Trinidad & Tobago. These beloved 16 ft mobile dancing puppets were the King and Queen of the band “Tantana”, with ”Tan Tan” being crowned Queen of Carnival, escorted by sweet man “Saga Boy”, portrayed by Alyson Brown and Peter Samuel respectively. The heads were sculpted by German artist Luise Kimme resident in Tobago. While the puppets are the focus of the painting, the mas players are subtly portrayed holding their puppet extensions to animate a memorable choreography. They performed internationally at 1994 FIFA World cup and 1996 Atlanta Olympics, bringing worldwide recognition of the talent of Peter Minshall and Trinidad & Tobago and is a cherished icon of our legacy.
