These Oil Rig Pumps or pumpjacks were used to lift the oil from underground wells. Oil was discovered in Trinidad in 1857 in the La Brea area and afterwards several southern forested areas of Fyzabad, Moruga, Point Fortin, etc. It was commercially exported in 1908. By 1937, in many villages the infrastructure such as hospitals, schools, recreation facilities, etc. were improved.
