This Festival of Colours or Phagwa as fondly known by Indo-Trinbagonians is connected with the legend of the demon King Hiranyakashyap and his son Prahlad and sister Holika. The colours used during Holi has significant meanings: red symbolizes love and fertility, yellow is the colour of turmeric, a powder and natural remedy native to India, blue signifies the Hindu God Krishna, and green is for new beginnings.
