About this Piece
“As a bee without harming the flower, its colour or scent, flies away collecting only the honey, even so
should the wise move through the world.”
— Dhammapada, Verse 49. We show a bee in quiet communion with blossoms of thyme; a plant deeply
rooted in traditions of healing, resilience, and everyday care. The modest thyme carries meanings of
courage and restoration. In Caribbean life, thyme is both ordinary and essential—woven into food,
medicine, and home. It speaks to a form of knowledge that is lived rather than displayed, passed through
practice and memory. The bee’s interaction mirrors this quiet importance. It gathers without disruption,
taking only what is needed while preserving the life of the plant. The image reflects a form of gentle
stewardship—one honouring the small, the sustaining, and (often) overlooked. It is a reminder that
survival does not require excess.
